Brian Bauman's writing is thrilling, sexy, political and rude. He's making provocative, in-your-face theatre -- not for the timid, or,
perhaps, this is just what the timid need...

Convoluted and hard to follow.

Complex, artful, looks great, and the language is dense and intense. It jumpstarts the brain with its non-linear narrative and shifting layers of artifice. This work requires you to pay attention as your brain is exposed to new post-media story-telling.

extremely brave, i must applaud the creators and performers for their courageous messeges. However, i was lost most of the play. too metaphorical for me. for someone who is not familiar with american politics and history its hard to follow. transitions are abrupt, takes a while to get into each transition. the messege moved me the permormance was not easy to fall into. hard to watch.

PORRIDGE is a consumate descent into a deadly Desert Storm of toxic, homo-neur-otic, fashion facist acts of War. Grab a NO EXIT ticket to newly broken theatrical terrain, Gays at Ground Zero. Even when it's actors are bleating out their lines, striking out sentences blandly in militaristic cadet cadence you cannot help but be bent to the page penned by the brilliant Brian Bauman. Nothing compares.

Dark and depressing. the blurb and picture advertising this show are misleading. Not my cup of tea.

Gay army men craving eachother and having pillow fights? I must say the direction was a bit poor, and the script a bit choppy and hard to follow. I kept on saying to my partner WTF? Do you get this? The stage lighing was also quite annoying as most of the time the audience was lit up with floodlights into the eyes, making the stage rather dark. The brief nudity was pointness and not worth the wait in line *wink*

That was faboo! Schlongs a go-go! Brilliantly directed and with writing that feels like Brian Bauman stuck his fist in my, uh, brain and threw it on the stage. It's an offbeat, dark, funny, sadistic, erotic American fairy tale that keeps making me think out loud. And there's schlongs-a-go-go! May I have some more, sir?

I applaud Brian Bauman and his dedicated cast and crew for bringing Porridge to Boulder. His play will not allow the audience to sit back comfortably and be entertained. It will challenge the viewer to pay attention, question cultural trends and maybe do something about what they feel uncomfortable with. I thought one could only see this kind of work of in NYC. Keep challenging us Brian!

Exactly what you expect from porridge. Steamy, sticky and bitterly sweet...like semen. Be prepared to think while being poisoned by nerve gas, perversion, sodomy, Vogue, and love.
Complex characters, beautiful stage direction and lighting, and a cast of freaks.
Brian Bauman's anger and purpose is inspiring like a kiss and a slap in the face. Watch his career. He is the next generation of queer conceptual writers.
DO NOT MISS THIS PLAY!

I had a brother in law who was a heroin addict, worked with 2 gulf war veterans, and have a friend who was dumb enough to join the army and go to iraq. So part of this hit home with me.
However, a pamphlet providing a little history lesson for most people would help here. While this is powerful and sometimes direct, other times, even those of us who know something about history, and work and live inside of vague metaphors, could barely keep up. 1 hr would work for me. Do appreciate seeing some

Do appreciate seeing something that isn't just more pathetic, fear based, new aged males, here in boulder.

Yes, it's nonlinear and yes, it's postmodern and often stylistic. But I've never enjoyed being spoon-fed my theatre experience. I like to think and love being forced to construct my own meaning. Passive consumers, perhaps you should stay home and watch some reality T.V.

Demanding. Very demanding. But it held my interest for the 90 minutes through the writing and some of the performances. You have to just trust the writer – it's a difficult piece of theater to understand, and some of it is difficult to watch – but it comes together in the end. Hanging in there is worth it for the experience of being pushed beyond our usual experience of drama. Over the course of the play some of the performers came into their own and fully inhabited the stage and their character

Well, Gay Male Porn has finally made it on stage in Boulder masquerading as art. The acting sucked...no pun intended. Too much yelling and the sound track way too loud. the lights in the eyes sent me home with a migraine. Wish I had donated the money to Boulder Pride.

You get some credit for effort, but there's an emotional range, not just one note for everything you're trying to get across. The constant military chants are an amateurish device (we got it the 1st time, we didn't need it over and over at the same absurd volume). Exploiting the famous gay hooker's dick? And the woman's breasts? Sophomoric. Gay men must be starved for live shows for this to be getting such high ratings.

First of all I question an "open, uncensored" festival that has a rating system. Especially, one that has "whatever" as an option. It's not worthy of the effort and ambition of show like Porridge. This play show presents a complicated, chaotic, hilarious look at pressing issues. I'm sorry to see so many respondenets responding to superficialities. P.S. The compariosons to gay porn lead me to believe many people have never seen any.

I was not compelled by any of these characters. The description was misleading and the topic was old hat. The actors were vulnerable and offered themselves completely and I appreciated the acting, however the script droned on and on and did not hold my attention at all. It was a painful and boring production to sit through. Well acted. Poorly written. A waste of my money and time.

very disappointed in this violent rant. was the audience supposed to feel violated too? The shock of screaming actors, polluted air and bad porn dialogue overruled any message. If your viewers get PTSD then is it a success? ugh.

Surreal like Apocalypse Now or Jarhead. Captures the fog of war. Great performances from the young soldier. It was a bit long for what it had to say. Also warn people about sitting in first row - the powder, the several nude people.
