Cemetery Golf
Written by Jim Loucks
Jim Loucks' live-wire solo performance takes you back to the Deep South with preachers shoutin’ from the mountaintops, mamas pickin’ switches and Hellfire just a heartbeat away.

Cemetery Golf exposes the fear imposed by fundamentalist Christianity and its effect on a hellfire and brimstone Southern Baptist preacher and his family. This timely topic is explored in Loucks' charismatic portrayal of each of the family members, enlivened by Gospel songs and his Southern humor and charm. Cemetery Golf deals with a hot button issue of today - fundamentalist Christianity - and how it affects children being brought up in the religion. This issue is brought to life in a playful and empathetic tone that brings humanity to both sides of the story. Utilizing both humor and drama, Cemetery Golf is a strong performance piece that connects with an audience no matter what their religious beliefs.

Very talented actor with quite a range and good voice too.

I expected a humorous rant about the religous right, but instead got a very tender piece about a mans conflict about his religious beliefs as he surveys his life growing up. The many characters Jim plays are played forcefully and with passion, although occasionally the roles seem confusing and overall the piece feels a bit long.

Peter Rock  4 Stars!
An intense slice of Americana
