Four Wishes, adapted from Gluskabe and the Four Wishes by Joseph Bruchac, is a teaching story. It depicts the journey of four native New England Abenaki men as they make their way to the island home of the great Gluskabe, folk hero and protector of the Abenaki who bestows one wish on each of the four men. One man wishes for worldly possessions, one yearns to be taller than all, another seeks immortality, and the fourth wishes to be a better hunter so that he may provide food for his people.
