River Story
Directed by Margarita Blush
River Story is a family puppetry performance based on the Bulgarian folk tale “Zlatka, the Girl Made out of Gold”. The show features beautiful hand-crafted puppets, masks, shadow theatre, live music, singing, and dancing. Inspired by Bulgarian folklore and mythology, the show creates a magical atmosphere to invite the audience on a mystic journey.

Through traditional folk wisdom and beautiful imagery, River Story reminds us that we shape our own destiny, that we hold the key to happiness in our own hearts. The story tells of a kind young maiden, Zlatka, who overcomes obstacles to discover her own strength and the path to happiness.

River Story is adapted and directed by Margarita Blush, an emerging director with a MFA in Directing for Puppet Theatre from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria. The show also features Betsy Tobin, an exceptional local professional puppetry artist, James Hoskins- highly talented professional musician with expertise in Bulgarian folk music, and Ashley Adams- a local actress and director. The puppets for the show were designed and created by Betsy Tobin. The set design was developed by Margarita Blush and Betsy Tobin.

Storytelling at its finest, masterful/magical performance, by the puppets, 3 women and musician. I find myself thinking about the river today and the choices of golden kindness or dark selfishness, this story flows deep. Bravo!
