Muse of Fire

Presented by Reel Kids

Reel Kids announces the world premiere of Muse of Fire, a new musical written by Kelly McAllister with music composed by Kari Kraakevik and Joshua Rich. Performances are:

-August 14th at 7pm

-August 15th at 2pm and 7pm

-August 16th at 2pm

The show is based on the play of the same name which had its premiere at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City as part of the New York International Fringe Festival. The musical is a comedic drama about what it means to be an artist.

The plot follows two novice muses, Dion and Polly, on their first assignment: helping a young woman become a great writer at great personal expense. The show asks the question, what is the point of theater in a world gone mad? Does art help make the world a better place? The answer is a resounding, poignant yes. It is a love letter to the human spirit and a celebration of the arts. Alternatively farcical, mystical, and always wildly entertaining, the show is the shot in the arm we all need while we wait for a vaccine.

Kids’ Sketch Comedy Show in an Afternoon with Michael Burgos

You may have heard of “Play in a Day” events, where groups of people come together to write, cast, rehearse, and perform a short play within 24 hours.
We’re going to see if we can create a short sketch comedy show — created by, and starring, children — within four hours!
This is going to be super loose and super fun (we’re not aiming to be perfect) as we attempt the ludicrously improbable!
In this workshop/event, children can expect to play games, learn about acting skills (movement, voice, etc.) and about how to write for performance. Then, of course, they’ll put on their own short sketch comedy show!
Michael Burgos has been teaching children acting since January 2010 with Acting for Young People — with this summer’s five weeks of acting camp being taught online. He has written and directed over 30 plays for children and has written two one-person shows of his own, “The Eulogy” and “Tiramisu”, which he toured around the world — and which were festival favorites at the 2018 and 2019 Boulder Fringe, respectively, with each show receiving the award for "Best Solo Performance” at the festival.
Michael holds a Diplôme from École Philippe Gaulier (Paris, France) and a B.A. in Theater from George Mason University. In addition to studying with theater guru Philippe Gaulier, Michael trained with master teacher Dody DiSanto, a teaching protégé of the late Jacques Lecoq. He is a graduate of Washington Improv Theater’s Training Program, has studied at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York, and also holds a B.M. from Berklee College of Music.
Date/Time: Sunday, August 16th 9:30am-1:30pm
Ages: 8 - 12
Cost: $20 per child
To optimize the playing, learning, and performing experience via Zoom, capacity will be limited, so early registration is encouraged.
