The Boulder International Fringe Festival presents the Learning Fringe, a year-round palette of educational events focused on building a creative community and artistic network around all disciplines of creativity. The Learning Fringe offers creative techniques to broaden our culture’s perspective on art and creativity. Learning Fringe events include workshops, lectures, performances, and panels that delve into themes of multi-generational performance, diversity in creativity, artistic excellence, cultural heritage, sustainability, sacred practice and business/finance for creative endeavors. The Boulder Fringe Festival partners with local artists and educators as well as presenting educational programming by out-of-town artists.
What’s happening now?
Teens Inspiring Community Arts are 2012 Boulder Fringe Artists!
Teens Inspiring Community Arts (TICA) was chosen in the lottery for a performance in the 2012 Fringe. TICA youth will create and produce the show; if you’d like to be involved, TICA is still accepting members!
What is TICA?
As part of our Learning Fringe program, Boulder Fringe has recently joined together with several community arts organizations to initiate a new collective called “Teens Inspiring Community Arts” (TICA). We are inviting youthful Fringe artists and/or enthusiasts to join us in this collective whose focus is to actively promote and support youth engagement in Boulder County.
TICA was founded by Frequent Flyers aerial dance, and other participating organizations include CU Outreach, Boulder Youth Body Alliance, Rocky Mountain Theater for Kids, The Loft, and the Boulder International Film Festival. TICA is youth led, with an adult mentor from each participating organization. TICA’s members meet once a month to plan activities.
General Goals for TICA:
- Get the greater community more involved in arts, especially teens
- Feel a sense of community through the arts
- Collaborations between participating organizations
- Sharing resources- audience, skills, supplies
- Work towards a collaborative performance in the 2012 Boulder International Fringe Festival.
- Flash Mobs- combine different groups together to hopefully get a group of at least 50 youth participating
TICA will host free workshops open to youth and mentors from TICA organizations. These workshops will be held once a month and will culminate with the collaborative performance in the 2012 Fringe.
If you are interested in participating in TICA, please contact Boulder Fringe’s Educational Programming Coordinator, Cynthia Ward, at workshops@boulderfringe.com, or call the Fringe Fone at 303-803-5643.
