Just saw this show at the Edmonton Fringe. Wow! This is what good solo performance is all about: moving, thought-provoking, personal, and entertaining. Plus extra perks: great dancing, burlesque irony, wonderfully detailed costumes and hilarious props… (Don’t get me started on the ever-changing pasties!) And then there’s the cutting political commentary. Una’s comfort with her body and complex identity on the stage makes it all happen, blending the personal, political, and physical in a show that appeals to all the senses, emotions, and the mind.

Just saw Una preform as politically poignant a piece as I have seen in decades. This is fun, and sad, and political, and sexy. A show I will recruit all of my friends to go family to attend. See it at the Boulder Fringe.

“One Hot Mess” is the exact words this performer used for herself, and I couldn’t agree more. Would have much preferred to see burlesque in a fun and campy way but by no means is this that kind of show. Rather this is a show where we are seduced as an audience into her political agenda and her hatred for Israel. She even goes so far as to wrap herself in the Flag of Israel while naked and rubbing her breasts and an crotch in this flag. She even claims to have a Jewish mother and Japanese father calling herself a “Jap Jap” I am sure her mother and grandparents are so proud of her disgracing herself. Don’t waste your hard earned money on this self loathing and true story of this “hot mess”.

I love the way this show intertwines fun and campy burlesque with powerful, progressive perspective. As a fellow self-loving Jew who also does not support a zionist state it was so refreshing to see a wider, more holistic view of Israel. This show felt at once deeply personal and universally relevant. I am amazed at the courage this performance took and am grateful for the opportunity to have experienced it!

    LOVED IT! LOVED IT! YES!

I tend to shy away from burlesque. But this show was about authenticity and vulnerability rather than objectification. Some of the politics had me worried for sensitive palates, but I gobbled it up with wide eyes.

    Especially go see if:
    1. You are an ally
    2. You are someone who struggles with feeling loved
    3. You are politically aligned to the left

    Yay!

I left Una’s show in awe of her bravery, beauty and guts. Way more than your typical burlesque piece, this show goes from exposing skin to exposing the depths of the soul. A remarkably well-rounded piece. It will broaden your understanding of the world. Do not miss it.

I couldn’t have been more impressed or more taken with Una’s beauty and bravery. I have no issue with her political agenda, nor with her using burlesque as an art form in order to relate her beliefs…that is what art is for! I even resent that someone might make this show, which is intrinsically about her, into some sort of comment about their own life. But her story, her burlesque, her body, and her strength of character, and her artistry, made me think I should! I highly recommend this show! Do not miss it!

Una elevates burlesque to new levels, opening minds and hearts along the way! She invites the audience to join her in deconstructing the problematic patterns of history/humanity, while celebrating the joy and creativity that get us through. She is not afraid to speak truth to power… Nor is she afraid to bare all! A beautiful woman. A beautiful show. SEE IT!!!!!!!!

Truly one of the most unique performers I’ve ever encountered. Una combines political critique and burlesque, storytelling and dance, humor and profound sadness, into a show that makes you laugh, think, and question. “exHOTic other” is like no show you’ve ever seen…trust me. “Fabulous” doesn’t even begin to describe it!

What exposure! Not only of outer self, but inner being of emotion, identity, and guts.
A joy to watch as well as to listen to story.
