Dancing with Demons: A Comedy of Sorts

Created by Shana Cordon with Claire Patton and Amir Khosrowpour

The Hero’s Journey has gone awry! A writer held hostage, a demon on the loose—when structure disappears, what’s a character to do? Hailed as “wickedly fun” by the Fresno Bee, this one-woman, multi-character show features heroes and villains, innocents and vixens who battle to tell their story. With exquisite physical theater, original music, and witty humor, this contemporary fairytale takes you on a haunting, hilarious, dark and delicious adventure.

“Worth the price of admission just to watch [Ms. Cordon’s] fluid body movements as she dances, crawls, leaps and sails across the small stage…She takes a rather standard fairytale and sends it down the rabbit hole of insanity to end up with a story within a story that has no slow moments.” —Fresno Bee

“Ms. Cordon’s fractured fairytale takes a hard left into a grown-up fantasy gone awry…This is not your mother’s Mother Goose.” –King River Life Magazine

“The show is truly a work of art! [Shana] masterfully weaves in and out of characters with a magician-like quality. They all come alive…pulling you into a world you don’t want to leave. This is truly a remarkable show!” –J. Knowles, Seattle

I saw this show at the Fresno Rogue Festival earlier this year. This is a fractured fairytale, a delicious and masterfully performed and directed romp. At the same time, it’s a universal story, a hero’s journey gone awry. This story will speak to your soul.

Fresno audiences loved this show. So will you!

It’s a must see! Go for it!

Shana turns the table on the conventions of storytelling in this highly physical, dramatic performance. Characters escape the confines of the story, and the good guys seeking adventure get more than they bargained for. What do we want from our fairy tales and and why? Shana embodies the innocent to the grotesque in a transformation of movement and being that is masterful. The door opens on the story, and we are invited in to experience the unexpected.

Shanna Cordons Dancing with Demons is a superb show. Single handily she evokes the imagination by turning a fairytale upside down and creating brilliant character archetypes that resonate with every part of the psyche. Thought provoking and extremely entertaining, a must see.

What a treat! Shana’s physicality is awe-inspiring. And the music, hip-swinging. Watch and delight as this unpredictable odyssey meanders its way through silliness, irreverence, insight & parody…to a poignant and hopeful conclusion. Not all who wander get lost!

Phantastic Physicality! It’s like a one-woman adventure movie complete with large-scale scenery, effects and dance numbers conveyed solely through excellent mime and rapid character changes, mixed with very human and thoughtful content. And very, very funny.

One stage was barely enough to contain the energy of Shana Cordon’s characters. She draws you in and you’re glad to ride along with her on a dark and exciting adventure that tosses the conventional perspectives of right and wrong, good and evil, out the window. The show is an absolute delight.

I don’t know how this show got such high ratings. Shana is a wonderful dancer but the story is incoherent and BORING!

Wow! Now that’s physical theater. Every muscle and fiber of Shana’s being is thrown into a richly told tale. Great direction by the notable Claire Patton! This is a must see at this year’s Fringe. GO!

This is a tale that will keep you on the edge of your chair. It is by turns hysterical and profound and you won’t be able to take your eyes off Shana’s gorgeously physical performance.

I was completely pulled into the story; mesmerized for the entire time. Exceptionally great physicality, endearing characters, and refreshingly un-American dose of realistic inquiry

A romping tale made mesmerizing and fun by Shana’s fabulous embodiments of – everything! Little boys, sexy meadow maidens, macho adventurers, maniacal devils, and more. She even made the typewriter come alive! Shana worked hard for her audience – and I REALLY respected that.

Awesome show! Shana is an amazing writer and performer, she crafted the story in such a funny but meaningful way… I was totally captivated. Loved the transitions between characters. This is a must see!

Ps. I wonder where was Lori’s attention (review above), even if its not your cup of tea I fail to see how can someone think the story was incoherent…
